Knife Review: Gerber E-Z Out Rescue
While a jack-of-all-trades utility knife has a place in anyone’s bug-out/personal gear, there are certain specialty blades that bear consideration by everyone from first responders to average citizens. The Gerber E-Z Out Rescue is a specialty knife that is worthy of consideration in anyone’s load out.
At first glance, the E-Z Out Rescue may remind the viewer of a scaled-down version of the saws used to cut down Christmas trees. The serrated edge runs the length of the 3.51 inch blade. The next feature that is readily apparent is the blunt tip of the knife. It is this tip that separates the E-Z Out Rescue from most utility knives. There are many situations in which a knife needs to be used to cut without puncturing an adjacent surface, such as skin. Whether used to cut loose rigging, such as a climbing harness, or restraints, such as a seat belt, the E-Z Out Rescue’s serrated blade is up to the task, while its blunt tip helps reduce the collateral damage to adjacent surfaces. The E-Z Out Rescue would also find a use in the field with livestock or pack animals, whether it be in the emergency removal of rigging or the routine removal of restraints.
The quality found in the E-Z Out Rescue’s construction is that which you would expect from a Brand like Gerber. The knife has a notched cut-out for easy one-handed opening, and a lockback mechanism to secure the blade once it is opened. A clip is attached to the handle for securing the knife to a belt or pocket, while the Thermoplastic handle is fiberglass-reinforced to withstand regular use. The handle also contains rubber inserts to assist in grasping the knife in wet or slimy conditions.
Specifications:
Overall Length: 7.91”
Closed Length: 4.51”
Blade Length: 3.51”
Weight: 2.6 oz.
Blade Material: High Carbon Stainless
Pros: The full serrated blade and blunt tip make this knife uniquely suited to many cutting functions in the field.
Cons: The blunt tip will limit the overall utility of the knife in certain applications.
Summary: The full serrated blade and blunt tip allow this knife to be employed in many cutting applications where the user is attempting to avoid the puncture of an adjacent surface. While not a traditional utility knife, the E-Z Out Rescue is so good at its designed application that it could see duty as a primary utility knife, and given our experience with the knife, it would be hard to argue with that.
TacticalGear.org Rating: 8.5/10

The E-Z Out Rescue has a black rubber insert to assist in gripping the fiberglass-reinforced yellow handle.

The clip can be seen just below the blade's cut-out for one-handed opening.

The full serrated blade means cutting business.

The blunt tip of the E-Z Out Rescue is what separates it from the crowd.

Looks like a good knife, but I prefer the Spyderco Salt series. The H1 steel is really awesome. I had it in the ocean for hours and forgot about it and didn’t wipe it down. No rust. Awesome.
This is a great knife!
light, easy to use and not expensive. I’s one of my EDC knives and can’t imagine not having it. great write up here, you won’t go wrong having one of these with you.
awesome knife in general with a cool yellow feature. Not to pleasing to the eye though. but definitely worth having.
This E-Z Out rescue knife is ideal for cutting seat belts, plus with its size it easily fits in your pocket and could be a life saver if in that situation. very good knife in general and is backed by Gerber.
another rescue knife to try would be the Gerber Hinderer.
Pretty solid knife. Perfect size for convenience. I would def. recommend!
